I just love creating beautiful things…

Hi there! I’m Kate – thanks for visiting! I am an artist & designer living in the beautiful city of Sydney, NSW Australia. I make costume props, accessories and home decor inspired by the Fantasy genre.

I’ve always had a natural interest in art, sculpture, painting and anything crafty… I have been making things since I was old enough to hold a glue stick! I was that kid at birthday parties who would bring their friend a handmade birthday gift. Every year my childhood best friend got yet another painted trinket from me, and bless her, she still has those trinkets on her bedside table! 20 years later she still gets handmade stuff from me, it’s just slightly more professional looking nowadays!!

I have years of knowledge and experience from making random stuff, having refined my skills through self teaching, formal education and A LOT of trial and error!  Kate’s Creations started as a hobby 15 years ago. I was 16 years old and bought a jewelry making show bag at the Sydney Royal Easter Show. After making a few pairs of earrings I was hooked… (pun most definitely intended!!!). I then designed and made the very first Kate’s Creations product – my beaded bookmarks, and gave them as gifts to family and friends. Word got around… people started asking if I could make one for their aunt, cousin, sister, mother, etc! So I took over my mother’s sun room, turned it into my first studio (thanks mum!), and started an eBay shop to sell my bookmarks and the odd piece of jewelry. After a short stint on eBay, I graduated to an Etsy store and after several years of being part of the wonderful Etsy handmade community, I’ve launched my very own online store right here.

My background is in Graphic Design – many of the same fundamental design principles apply to art too. This serves me well when designing and creating my pieces. I come from a long line of creative souls, both my grandmothers were dressmakers, one also knitted and crocheted. My mum sews and makes gorgeous greeting cards and my dad is a photographer. I’ve learned a lot about creativity from both of them, and I’m super grateful they allowed me to indulge in my art and craft hobby from a very young age. Thanks guys!!

Kate’s Creations has grown from a small hobby site selling a single line of bookmarks to a full time business selling a whole range of props, accessories and ornaments.  I hope you find something here that you absolutely love, and will cherish for years to come.
